When it established in 1947, The School of Visual Arts (SVA) was a school for Cartoonists and Illustrators. In the beginning, the school had only three teachers and just 35 students, and most of them were veterans of WW2. Today, The School of Visual Arts has more than 6000 students and offers 22 graduate degree programs and 11 undergraduate programs. The school so successful, it is considered at the top 2% in all animation schools. Also, it is located in New York City, and this location makes the school even more popular for students.

Animation students in The School of Visual Arts get the chance to work as interns or part-timers in the animation companies owned by the school’s many graduates. Titmouse, Augenblick Studios, and Plympton are just some examples. There are many more independent animation companies like these all located in New York as well.

Other than those independent companies, many graduates of SVA are working in bigger famous companies such as Warner Bros. Animation, DreamWorks Animation, Disney Animation Studios, Blue Sky Studios, Nickelodeon, Sony Pictures Animation, and Lucasfilm Animation.
