Ringling College of Art and Design
Ringling College of Art and Design (RCAD) is another highly successful school that is considered in the top 1% of all animation schools. It is located in Sarasota, Florida, in the United States.
Established by John Ringling in 1931, Ringling College of Art and Design didn’t have many students when it opened its doors for the first time. There were only 75 students, and the schools had 111 different courses. It is undoubtedly quite fewer than the number of students there are today.
Nowadays Ringling College of Art and Design, RCAD offers 11 different “Bachelor of Fine Arts” degrees and 2 “Bachelor of the Arts” degrees to their 1400 students.
Popular Programs of Ringling College of Art and Design
One of RCAD’s most popular programs is The Computer Animation program. About 20 percent of all of their students take this program. The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Computer Animation teaches students how to design, color, animate, and create characters as well as stories. Along with lighting, textures, modeling, and composing, students learn every aspect of animation and digital movie making in this program. The all-around education approach is what makes students love Ringling College of Art and Design as an animation school.
Another popular program of Ringling College of Art and Design is The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Motion Design. By taking this program, students learn about animation, storyboard art, concept design, composition, sound design, and videography. Studying Motion Design allows you to work in many positions in the animation business.
RCAD has many alumni who worked and still working in professional companies. Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Pixar, Blue Sky Studios, DreamWorks Animation, Electronic Arts, Lucasfilm, Sony Pictures Imageworks, Walt Disney Animation, and many others have RCAD graduates working with them.
Even more impressively, every single animated movie that has won an Oscar award since 2003 had Ringling College of Art and Design (RCAD) graduates behind it. For example; the animated movie “Inside Out”, won Oscar in 2016 and had 14 RCAD graduates work on it. Another example is the 2017 Oscar winner “Zootopia”, which had 21 Ringling College of Art and Design graduates behind it.
