Pratt Institute
Pratt Institute is another long-dated school that you can choose as your animation school. It is open since 1887 and has about 4600 students. The institute offers more than 50 programs you can obtain graduate or undergraduate degrees as well as many different minor degrees and certificates. Among all animation schools, Pratt’s “School of Art” is considered at the top 3%. Under the name of Pratt Institute, there are six schools;
- 1- School of Art
- 2- School of Design
- 3- School of Information
- 4- School of Architecture
- 5- School of Liberal Arts and Sciences
- 6- School of Continuing and Professional Studies
Other than these schools, Pratt also has many research, and art centers as well as labs.
Pratt Institute, Animation Degree
Through The School of Art, Pratt offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Arts and Animation. This program allows you to focus on Interactive Arts or Digital Animation and Motion Arts. Also, the education in the institute, “animation school” covers both 2-D and 3-D animations.
If you are interested in a higher degree, the institute offers a Master of Fine Arts in Digital Animation and Motion Arts program as well. This MFA program here does have electives such as motion dynamics, Lighting and Rendering, Special Effects, Compositing, Painting, Character Design and Animation, and Storyboarding and Storytelling. All these courses are in addition to the main courses about 2-D and 3-D digital animation techniques, live-action, and motion graphics.
Alumni of Pratt Institute animation school worked and still work in many of the largest companies in the animation business and other digital arts. Some of them are; Walt Disney Animation Studios, DreamWorks Studios, Cartoon Network Studios, Gameloft, Sony Imageworks, Industrial Light & Magic, Blue Sky, Rhythm and Hues, and Curious Pictures, and Digital Domain.
