Animation Degree Programs
Animation schools offer you a range of education types of Animation Degree Programs. Depending on your needs and status you can choose one of these education types to improve your animation skills, learn new skills, or just get a qualification for your existing skills. Now, we will examine these animation degree programs:
You can get your education in the form of certification programs, associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, and master’s degrees in different animation schools. While technically there are doctorate degrees in animation that you can find if you search online, there is none in the US so far. So, we can skip animation doctorate degrees for now.
Animation degree programs in animation schools allow you different ranges of opportunities. For example, while an animation certificate can let you get into some basic animating jobs, a master’s degree in animation would allow you to teach animation at universities and colleges or lets you be preferred by larger companies.
Animation Certification in Animation Degree Programs
The most accessible form of animation education is animation certifications. Most of the time, these programs are cheaper than other education types, and the animation schools you can participate in them are numerous.
You can take certification programs in animation schools for the many-core topics of animation such as 3D modeling, 2D animation, and Graphic design in a general manner. More niche topics would be available at higher levels of animation degree programs.
The animation certification programs usually teach you the fundamentals of animation. So, they are a good option if you are new to animation and need to learn the basics first.
Also, since they generally cost less than other options and took shorter times to complete (usually around 17-18 credits), these animation certifications are useful for making your skills official. Some people have already learned animation by themselves and become a professional but they don’t have any certification or degree to prove it easily on paper. If you are one of them an animation certification program can be a logical option for you too. It would also refresh your skills as a bonus.
Animation Associate Degree in Animation Degree Programs
The next higher level of Animation Degree Programs after the certification programs is the animation associate degree. Not all animation schools offer this type of education but they are still common.
Animation associate degree programs are 2-year programs that teach you both core skills and some higher skills. Some of those higher skills are prerequisites for higher college-level courses. So, they open some more options if you take them.
In some animation schools, there are multiple divisions you can choose to progress during your associate degree. For instance, you would see Animation specialties, Graphic design, Multimedia, as well as Game design courses in many animation associate degree programs.
Completing an “animation associate degree” allows you to find entry-level jobs in animation studios, as well as positions in designing, advertising, or game developing companies.
While an associate degree in animation usually requires more commitment, as in time and money it will cost you, it is also somewhat shorter and has lower requirements than higher levels of education in animation schools.
In two cases animation associate degree programs are perfect for you. If you want an education more serious than a certificate program, but you are short on time or money degree in animation, an associate degree in animation would provide you with what you want.
Or, maybe you want to progress in animation school education levels, but the bachelor’s degree ( or the master’s degree) you want has requirements of some prerequisite courses to be taken before. So, you can take an animation associate degree and then move on to the higher levels of Animation Degree Programs.
Animation Bachelor’s Degree in Animation Degree Programs
In the animation business, a bachelor’s degree in animation is one of the most common requirements for professional jobs. Therefore, almost all proper animation schools offer bachelor’s degrees these days.
These programs cover 4-year of a complete education in animation. And, bachelor’s degrees generally allow you to take a wide range of courses about animation and relative topics. Although, some courses may have requirements of some prerequisite courses you may take in an associate degree beforehand.
The key factor in choosing this education type is the commitment you make. It takes 4 years on average to complete a bachelor’s degree, and the tuition costs are usually about a certification program’s cost every year. So, if somehow you decide that you don’t want to complete this program after the first years, the fees you paid and the time you spent up to that point make giving up on this education much harder than alternatives.
However, completing an animation bachelor’s degree opens so many opportunities and teaches you so much. If you are interested in animation and want to be a professional animator, a bachelor’s degree in an animation school is probably the best way to do it.
Animation Master Degree in Animation Degree Programs
A Master’s Degree, in general, is quite rare and challenging to achieve. But, if you want to go all the way and learn as much as you can while opening even more doors for yourself in the animation business, you can consider taking your education to the master’s degree level.
You can specialize your education in “Master’s Degree in Fine Arts” on Animation subject. Under this subject, you will learn even more about animation than you can in a bachelor’s degree in animation.
Perhaps most people want this education because a master’s degree allows you to teach animation and other fine arts in universities and animation schools. This opportunity is exclusive to master’s degree holders.

However, master’s degree educations are even more difficult to get in compared to the other Animation Degree Programs in animation schools. First of all, you need to be a bachelor’s degree graduate. Even if you have a bachelor’s degree since the number of students is much fewer in master’s degrees in animation schools, the competition to get in is quite extreme. We shouldn’t forget that the tuition fees are also somewhat high for this education type.
